Love, Lies & Linguine

Feature Film

This story was inspired while writer/director Rodrigo Torres Badoino was attending a wedding. This was coincidentally how James Corden came up with the idea for the show “Gavin & Stacey” too, which we take comparison audience appeal from.

And then drawing from the relationship based “emotional trainwreck” reality TV show “Married at First Sight” (MAFS).

A “Married at First Sight” inspired anti rom-com for a new generation.

Synopsis

A character driven story for the ages on love, life and friendships as two couples navigate the perils of wedding plans, the responsibility of social media fame and testing the boundaries of friendship, while “enjoying” dinner at their favourite Italian restaurant.

The dinner, takes place just a week before the wedding, where façades crumble, revealing the underlying tensions and secrets of our characters as our bride drops her maid of honour at the last minute.

A witty observation of life challenges that most of us face and connect us all. But focusing on the next generations’ couples experience with relationship dynamics and friendship drama that will test loyalties and expose some hard truths.

Our subplot themes will interweave and comment on societal expectations and questionable behaviour in cause-and-effect mayhem. All of this is tackled on a micro and macro basis through our characters perspectives and priorities.

The culmination of events drives the pace and narrative around our characters and their self-induced mutual destruction and farce.

This film captures the zeitgeist approach of situational engaging character driven stories for today’s audience while emulating the comedic observations of films of their time including “Four Wedding and a Funeral”, “Death at a Funeral”, “Anyone but You”.

And now “Love, Lies & Lingune”.

Soon to be married LUCIA and failed entrepreneur FRED, who is missing his ailing grandfather’s birthday to appease his fiancé and meet friends DUSTIN and influencer BRONTE, who lives for her social media followers, for a big announcement. All taking place at scam artist ALFONSO’s “traditional” Italian restaurant, which is cheesier and less authentic than the frozen pizzas he’s serving.

On the menu tonight will be the entrée of LUCIA dumping her friend BRONTE as Maid of Honour, only a week before the wedding. Gold Flake Cocktails and Karaoke can surely lighten the mood with LUCIA offering for FRED to pay for everyone’s night out.

Then for the main course, failed business pitches, indiscreet naked pics in the bathroom, a bill that is escalating out of control and more secret wedding plans that could upstage the bride, with everyone hiding their own deceptions from each other. And FRED trying to negotiate the bill down with shady owner ALFONSO who has his own hidden agendas.

For dessert, secrets are out, fights erupt and bones will break. The bill is split and so are they as friends. The taxi home is replaced by ambulance and police. And Fred is informed that his grandfather died, with his only question being, “Am I in the will”.

Our story and characters shine a dimly lit restaurant light on today’s societal expectations. All served comedically with questionable behaviour in this cause-and-effect mayhem spotlight on today’s Gen Y audience, and some of their priorities and motivations.
